Vancouver based Bernard LLP is seeking an employment lawyer with a minimum of five to six years’ experience to work with our senior employment lawyer who is transitioning into retirement and to work with and mentor our junior lawyers.

Our employment practice includes representing:

a) employers and employees (primarily employers) in all aspects of the employment relationship with an emphasis on human rights, employment standards, harassment, judicial review, wrongful dismissal, disability insurance, workers’ compensation, and labour relations (management-side) matters, including:

    • representing clients before arbitrators, administrative tribunals, and all levels of court in British Columbia and Canada;
    • negotiating, mediating, and resolving complex disputes and claims;
    • drafting and negotiating employment based contracts, policies, and procedures;
    • managing workplace investigations and complaint processes;
    • advising employers on personnel and human resource issues, policies, and processes, from hiring to post termination;
    • working with corporate counsel and senior management on employment issues in the sale or transfer of a business or its assets; and
    • helping senior managers to establish and maintain a respectful workplace culture without harassment and bullying, and which is guided by principles of equity, inclusion, and diversity, to minimize conflict and disputes.

b) professionals before their regulatory College, including:

    • advising professionals on registration with, complaints to, and discipline by the regulatory College;
    • negotiation with the regulatory College on registration, complaints, and discipline; and
    • representing professionals on complaints to the regulatory College and on appeals and judicial review.

Our senior employment lawyer’s practice is part of a multi-disciplinary team with a workplace psychologist and workplace investigator/educator/lawyer. The team operates a collaborative and concurrent multi-disciplinary approach to resolving workplace conflicts, under the trademarked name RespectWorks.

A partly portable practice will be considered an asset.
